The Presidents of IUPAC and IUPAP have appointed a
new Joint Working Party (JWP) to consider claims for the discovery of
new elements.
The names of the members of this JWP are
Prof. R C Barber (University of Manitoba)
Dr. Graziano Fortuna (Vice-president, INFN
Prof. Paul J. Karol (Carnegie Mellon University)
Prof. Bradley Sherrill (Michigan State University)
Prof. Emanuele Vardaci (Universita degli Studi di Napoli Federico II)
Emeritus Professor Toshimitsu Yamazak (Heavy Ion Nuclear Physics Laboratory, RIKEN)
The discoveries of all elements up to and including
copernicium, atomic number 112, and also those of elements with atomic
numbers 114 and 116, which are currently awaiting finalisation of the
naming process, have been assigned.
The new JWP wishes therefore to consider claims for
the discovery of all the remaining elements in that period for which no
assignments have yet been made: namely elements with atomic numbers 113,
115, 117 and 118. It will also consider claims for the discoveries of
any elements with atomic numbers greater than 118.
Claims submitted should be complete and as fully and
clearly documented as is possible and should contain full references
(widely available sources, no private communications). They should be
accompanied by a commentary that, for example, explains any apparent
conflicts or omissions in the documentation presented.
Because this is a new examination, all the details
of published individual values for any element for which a claim is made
is required.
